USA Jobs Forever: Can you briefly describe yourself and your career path?
Jeff Long: My name is Jeff Long. I’m the Marketing Manager at Medical Solutions. I have never been a nurse and am not a recruiter.
I have worked at Medical Solutions for five years and think it is a
great company that has a lot to offer nurses and allied health
professionals interested in a travel career.
I have a Bachelors degree in Journalism, but got a job as a
copywriter out of college instead. After that, I became a graphic
designer and during that time received a Masters degree in
After that, I took a marketing position with Medical Solutions where I have been for the past 5 years. It is a great blend of all the areas of communications that interest me.
UJF: Do you write articles on http://travelnursingblogs.com? If yes, what topics do you write on?
JL: Yes, I am the main author and editor of Travel Nursing Blogs.com. I cover a wide range of topics from cool websites for travel nurses to career advice in working with agencies like ours to basic advice on navigating the world of travel nursing.
UJF: Which other websites / blogs do you write articles for?
JL: I also write for Medical Solutions main website and company blog and The Healthcare Staffing Blog.
UJF: Describe your activities as marketing manager of Medical Solutions.
JL: I am in charge of all of Medical Solutions marketing efforts so that keeps me very busy with a variety of responsibilities which include:
But my main role is simply to share and educate nurses about travel nursing and how we can help them do it.
UJF: Which way do you feel are you helping the Nursing profession, in your own small way?
JL: During my career in the travel nursing industry I have heard numerous stories about the positive impact our travel nurses have on the patients they work with. Hearing stories like that is how I know I am making a difference.
UJF: Considering your experience in this industry, if there is one thing you would like changed, what would it be?
JL: I can’t think of anything really, it is a great industry to work in that meets a big need out there.
UJF: Would you like to give any advice to an aspiring travel nurse?
JL: Give it a try, but make sure you are prepared first. It is not something just to jump into. You need to be able to step right in and help short-staffed hospitals out so great clinical skills and people skills are a must.
